Nashville is known as Music City, and our love for music shines more than ever during 4th of July week! The state capital offers residents and visitors a diverse selection of activities and we’ve rounded up the most fun, family friendly, music-heavy events to keep you and your little ones singing and celebrating all week long!
1. Take A Patriotic Music Class
Kick things off early on Wednesday with a fun Pre-K Music class! Music U offers music classes for ages 3-5 where children and their parents can play instruments, sing, dance and have a blast! Children ages 5-10 can join the ukulele class and be playing tunes in no time! This week, there’s a special patriotic theme in celebration of Independence Day! Classes offered at 9am and 10 am.
2. Attend an Early Fireworks Show
After the music class, you can head over to Tailgate Brewery for their July 3rd Fireworks Show. Now that you’ve brushed up on your patriotic songs in music class, you’re ready to sing along to live music at their FREE event! This show promises to be epic with live music, pizza, activities and a firework show by the same company that does the downtown show! Beat the crowds and get to this awesome event! The fun starts at 3pm, the fireworks start at 9pm.
3. Hot Chicken, nuff said.
On the 4th of July check out the Music City Hot Chicken Festival. The East Nashville tradition is hosted by Nashville Hot Chicken and Yazoo Brewing Company, which we can all agree, is a winning combination! This FREE event starts at 11am so you can get a full day of live music and festivities in before heading to another fireworks show, if you’re into that.
4. See The Very Best Fireworks
Speaking of another firework show, Nashville has the best in the country! Let Freedom Sing is a fabulous event held downtown on Broadway. Enjoy live music, family friendly fun beginning at 12pm, and the most elaborate firework show you’ve ever seen! Oh, this one is also FREE!
5. Hit Up A Party Just For Kids
If you’re looking for a more kid centered event, Plaza Mariachi is hosting a FREE Kids Party on July 4th from 1pm-6:30pm! They’ll have face painting, character photos, music (obvi) and so much more!
6. Support Local Farmers
After all of that celebrating and hot chicken eating, you’ll likely be in the mood for a healthy snack. On Friday, July 5th, you can head over to the Hip Donelson Community Farmers Market where you can support your local farmers (over 35 vendors this weekend!) while you listen to live music and grab some fresh produce!
7. Enjoy Art and Diversity
Close out the fun-filled week with an event that exemplifies some of the best parts of the United States: art and diversity! Plaza Mariachi is hosting a Viva Frida Festival on Saturday, July 6th. The festival will celebrate the life and work of Mexican artist - Frida Kahlo with an outdoor event featuring music, food, art, contests and the unveiling of a new Frida mural that will be a permanent part of Plaza Mariachi. Festivities begin at 1pm.
However you and your family choose to celebrate 4th of July, we wish you a safe and fun holiday filled with music and laughter. For more ways for your children to explore music, visit Music U where we strive to establish a love of music and a love of learning in each child. Group classes and private lessons available.
